Add additional smokey flavor to your food by using wood chips

This will give your food that smokey outdoorsy flavor you love! Most smoke boxes are too big for electric grills so here are some tips to make your own smoke chip pack. Soak wood chips for a good half hour before you intend to start grilling and wrap them in thick aluminum foil. Poke some holes in the wrapped wood chips so that the smoke can get out. Once you start using your electric grill on a regular basis, you may notice that it doesn’t need smoke chips anymore to give your food that delicious smokey flavor.

Preheat your electric grill while you prep everything else

Make sure you give your grill enough time to reach the proper temperature. Besides, letting the electric grill preheat while you get everything else set is a good way of making the most out of your time. Importante: once you start cooking, the grill temperature won’t rise anymore, since heat is lost through the opening created by the food on the grill.

Always clean the grill before and after each use

Brush down the grates with a steel brush before and after grilling. It’s also important to deep-clean your electric grill a couple of times each season. Make sure you remove any detachable parts, like the grates, spray them down with a grease cleaner, clean them, and rinse thoroughly. Don’t forget to clean the drip pan and to wipe out the bottom of the grill below the heating component. Leaving some carbon and wood chips is good for getting that smokey flavor but if you have too much, it may be oversmoke your food. You can gently clean the area to remove some carbon and chips. It won’t be spotlessly clean but you’ll keep the smokey flavor!
